al-Zawahiri Releases Another Video

22 06 2006

Al-Qaeda’s second in command, Egyptian terror mastermind Ayman al-Zawahiri, released another videotape today.

In the video, al-Zawahiri, speaking in Arabic, addresses his message to the people in Afghanistan and talks about what he terms “crimes against the Afghan people by the Americans.”

He claims to have recorded the message, which lasts 3 minutes and 44 seconds, the day after deadly riots in Kabul on May 29.

He calls on young men in Kabul’s universities to defend their homeland against what he called invaders.

I have to wonder if al-Zawahiri records one video every week, then releases the ones that appear to make al-Qaeda look the best. He misses two key events:

1. The death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and
2. the completion of the Iraqi government

Imagine trying to appear determined to defeat America when she has just handed you two major blows.

The Bush administration’s “Stay The Course” direction is not for political gain. It’s so we can win. Liberals and al-Zawahiri are equally stubborn about this campaign and are both maneuvering more for political gain.

The Captain points out one other irony:

In fact, the focus on the Afghans seems more than a little strange. Not many of them have televisions, and when Zawahiri’s goons ran the country few were allowed that luxury. Now Zawahiri wants them to support the Taliban by using a technology that they all but banned while in charge. Can Zawahiri explain that hypocrisy?
