Hillary Botches Question at Debate

Blogosphere lighting up over this one: Hillary Clinton shoots her campaign in the foot, leg, heart, and head with her flip-flopping at the debate tonight. I believe Bryan at Hot Air leads it off best:

Let’s call this Exhibit A in the case against Hillary Clinton for president. In the following clip we see her radicalism, her shrillness, her inability to finesse a tough question, and her condescension to her opponents.

Captain Ed:

This was a disastrous answer from Hillary. She can expect to live with this YouTube for the next year.

Here is the transcript from MSNBC (see pages 20-21):

Edwards: For children? To try to protect children — using technology to protect children, I would.

I want to add something that Chris Dodd just said a minute ago, because I don’t want it to go unnoticed. Unless I missed something, Senator Clinton said two different things in the course of about two minutes just a few minutes ago.

And I think this is a real issue for the country. I mean, America is looking for a president who will say the same thing, who will be consistent, who will be straight with them. Because what we’ve had for seven years is double-talk from Bush and from Cheney, and I think America deserves us to be straight.

Williams: Senator Obama, why are you nodding your head?

Obama: Well, I was confused on Senator Clinton’s answer. I can’t tell whether she was for it or against it. And I do think that is important. One of the things that we have to do in this country is to be honest about the challenges that we face.

Immigration is a difficult issue. But part of leadership is not just looking backwards and seeing what’s popular or trying to gauge popular sentiment. It’s about setting a direction for the country. And that’s what I intend to do as president.

What can we learn from Hillary’s botched answer other than the fact that she has just created her very own haunted moment for the extent of her campaign on the day before Halloween? Amazingly, Hillary attempts to blame Bush for not passing immigration reform and pass it off as an answer to Spitzer’s illegal alien drivers license program. I guess bad habits tend to resurface at the most inopportune time an embarrass us. She’s so locked into “Blame Bush,” she just couldn’t help herself.

Secondly, Hillary is, once again, showing how far out of step she is with not only America, but her own party and the state she is supposed to be representing by showing the slightest bit of support for this obvious liberal, vote-generating scam:

A new poll out shows there is little support for Governor Spitzer’s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. (Spitzer’s proposal would allow undocumented immigrants to get a license without a social security number.) The Siena Research Institute poll found 22 percent of New Yorkers polled supported the proposal. A slightly larger number polled – 25 percent agreed with the governor’s assertion that his plan would lower auto insurance rates for all New Yorkers.

Meanwhile, 72 percent are against the plan and 64 percent said they believe the plan would pose a risk to national security.

Hillary has no principles and no stands on the issues. She will simply say whatever she needs to in order to get elected. When you take that liberal of an approach, it’s only a matter of time before you shoot yourself in the foot. I just didn’t think she’d keep shooting it.

Exit question: How long until she shoots her other foot?
