Whatever credibility NBC might have had leftover from Keith Olbermann’s draining of it, it was lost yesterday, when the network actually refused to run ads that simply thanked the troops for their service. The ads were sponsored by Freedom’s Watch and NBC wanted their organization name and website address removed before approval citing a “network policy” designed to avoid conflict. Uhh, too late, they’ve got KO on every day. He doesn’t even have to open his mouth and they’ve got conflict.
NBC said it declined to air the ad because it refers to the group’s Web site, which the network said was too political, not because of the ad’s message.
The spot was to be part of a seven-figure campaign that includes newspaper ads and television commercials. The ads are to run on CNN and Fox News Channel and are running in various newspapers. The New York Times ran a full-page Freedom’s Watch ad Friday that said “Thank You!” and depicted a soldier reading a letter. The newspaper ad also contained the Web site address.
And just for the record, Freedom’s Watch was charged full price, unlike MoveOn.org.
Here are the ads:
Then, late Saturday, NBC reversed course after enduring a nationwide backlash that didn’t include Keith Olbermann, Alec Baldwin, Cindy Sheehan, Harry Reid or any other supposed expert on national security.
Michelle Malkin has a photoshop contest going. Some good ones already posted on her site.
Hot Air has the video of Newt talking about NBC Friday.
And here’s a shocker:
NBC lawyer who nixed troop ad gives generously to Congressional Democrats
Scandal? Naw, just put KO in. He can take care of it for them.
Remember last year’s attempt by NBC to scuttle conservatives at a NASCAR race blew up in their face when they were exposed. Is it any wonder the peacock is as insignificant as it is?
