What’s in a Christmas Ad?

I find it interesting that Fred Thompson’s “Christmas” ad has nothing to do with Christmas at all. Instead, his ad skillfully attempts to scoop up more voters by using the Christmas season when voters are trying to forget politics and focus on their families for a few days.

Unlike Huckabee, whose Christmas ad scores a 100 in the Reason for the season category. Or at the opposite end where Hillary’s socialism ad which might get a 5, Thompson’s ad can’t get more than 50. Not once does he mention the Reason for this season, thereby losing 50 points. I will give Fred HUGE kudos for the ad’s topic. I really liked it. But it wouldn’t have hurt him to include some reference to God’s Son Jesus, whose birth is the reason we celebrate Christmas and without His sacrifice we would not live. See, I even drew him a useful parallel.

Perhaps Fred didn’t want to find himself in the same situation Huckabee is in: pressured to apologize for mentioning Jesus in a Christmas ad.

In the ad, he asks: “Are you about worn out by all the television commercials you’ve been seeing, mostly about politics? Well, I don’t blame you. At this time of year sometimes it’s nice to pull aside from all of that and just remember that what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ and being with our family and friends.”

“Sometimes in the middle of Christmas, Jesus is the one person who’s tough to find. You notice that? I can find Santa at every mall, you can find discounts in every store but if you mention the name of Jesus, as I found out recently, it upsets the whole world. Forgive me but I thought that was the point of the whole day,”

Naturally, since Huckabee is former Baptist minister, he knows how to handle this situation, but since Fred doesn’t even attend church on a regular basis, he would be a bit more uncomfortable.

Don’t get me wrong. I commend Fred for the ad and it’s message. It just lacked a central element. But it won’t be a deal-breaker for him. I still support Fred as the Republican nominee. He’s just not my first choice.

Look at it this way, it’s not even close to what Hillary should be dealing with. While she’s attempting to reach voters who celebrate Christmas by simply alienating them (see video link above) by saying “happy holidays” and pushing a socialist agenda, her supporters are claiming there is a correlation to American soldiers with bibles and jihadists with the Koran. Of course, the media ignores these far leftists and Hillary suffers little.
