Obama’s Pastor Embarrasses Entire Congregation

Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Barak Obama’s pastor, went on Hannity & Colmes last night to respond to claims that his church is a black separatist congregation. He failed miserably and embarrassed his congregation as well the entire denomination, whatever that is:

Some charge Hannity was race-baiting, but they skip the entire segement focusing on the last few seconds ignoring the entire tirade by Wright.

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

Notice at the 1:02 mark, Hannity, reading number 1. from the “Black Value System” says, “Rev, I’m with you on that and I hope you are praying for me.” Wright actually chuckles at this as if to say, “Hell no, you’re white!”

At the 1:28 mark, Hannity asks the legitimate question that if a church had a “White Value System and said “White” in every point that Wright uses black in his value system, we would certainly call them racist and separatist. Wright responds that we’ve been doing this all along in Christianity and since slave trading. “We don’t have to say the word ‘White.’ We just have to live in the United States of White America.” This man is dilusional, his church is a cult, and anyone who believes teachings like this need to take a good look at themselves.

Next, at the 2:07 mark, Wright becomes quite belligerent with Hannity. Wright made his point, albeit, an idiotic one, but he made it and when Hannity tries to get to the next question, Wright continues to interrupt him demanding to make a point to Hannity that is not a part of the question. Since this is “Hannity & Colmes,” not “Wright & Colmes,” I applaude Sean for his maturity in handling this child-like behavior of a black cult leader. After Wright demands to ask Hannity a question, Sean finally gets his question in.

But at the 3:42 mark (yes, that’s over 1 minute of badgering by Wright), Sean’s question of shouldn’t we all just be united in Christ goes unanswered as Wright has to be rescued by Alan Colmes, who jumps into this double dutch with, “Rev. Wright, it’s Alan Colmes.” The Rev immediately stops talking over Sean and listens to see what softball pitch Alan will toss him.

Alan’s soft pitch turns out to be spin as he asks why conservatives would have a problem with a church adhering to values that promote self-help and self-reliance? Uhh, Alan, were you snoozing during the first several minutes of this? It’s the unnessecary insertion of the word, “Black” into the values and the behavior and attitudes that accompany it that we have an issue with.

At the 4:14 mark, Colmes knows they are in trouble when Wright goes off-topic again, demanding to know how much Hannity knows about “black liberation theology.” Hey, Rev, it’s irrelevant! Who cares? That’s not the point. But Colmes even has to interrupt him to inform him (again) of what the charges are (black separatist) and can he refute it (No!).

Wright responds by saying that, in his twisted mind, a “Black value system” does not separate. It does not assume hiearchy. It does not assume superiority. Well, Mr. Wright, please tell us what it does assume. He never does. Because he can’t get around his racial thinking.

At the 5:48 mark, Hannity’s last remark is that we focus on ways to help the “American community,” not just the “black community.” Wright’s face turns evil and he snaps back suggesting Hannity read more on black liberation before talking to him.

At the 5:57 mark, Hannity suggests that omitting “Black” from our values will help us all, like Martin Luther King. This sets off the Reverend. He says, “Martin Luther King was from a black church, not Pat Robertson’s church, not Jerry Falwell’s church, not from the conservative Christian church…” Oh boy. This man needs help.

Hannity is trying to thank the man for coming on the show and tell the audience about what’s coming next while having insults thrown at himself and fellow Christians. As he’s wrapping up, I guess Wright remembers that he’s a “pastor” and finally gets in a couple of “God bless you’s” in the final seconds. Not from whatever god has possessed you, Mr. Wright. Pathetic.

I guess this guy didn’t learn too much about Col. 3:11 wherever he went to seminary.

Interesting that Wright never mentions a single Bible verse in any of his badgering responses. Instead, he’s constantly pointing to other irrelevant authors. Any Christian pastor would be able to defend their position biblically. Guess that tells us what we need to know about Wright, but I’m not going to pass the same judgement on Obama until I hear more from him. Not everyone is a mirror-image of their pastors.

UPDATE – 3/13/08: Reader Darnell emails that the original video has been removed by YouTube for “violation of terms of use.” It’s not a violation of free speech since YouTube can certainly decide what its “term” are, but at best they can’t take the heat so they take it down. Either way, it’s not good for them. I replaced it with a new one, but it may not last long either.
