McKinney Plays Race, Ahem, Ace Card

31 03 2006

Allah Pundit, pinch hitting for a vacationing Michelle Malkin, has kept us well up to date on this.

We all knew it was coming. I don’t even know why these lawyers even try it anymore.

She alleges, through her lawyer, that her real crime was “being in Congress while black.”

Here is what McKinney posted on her website Wednesday. The see below for what she considered posting.

(Washington, DC) – To the Members of the Capitol Hill Police:

Earlier today I had an unfortunate confrontation with a Capitol Hill Police Officer. It is traditional protocol that Capitol Hill Police Officers secure 535 Members of Congress, including 100 Senators. It is the expectation of most Members of Congress that Capitol Hill Police officers know who they are. I was urgently trying to get to an important meeting on time to fulfill my obligations to my constituents. Unfortunately, the Police Officer did not recognize me as a Member of Congress and a confrontation ensued. I did not have on my Congressional pin but showed the Police Officer my Congressional ID.

I know that Capitol Hill Police are securing our safety, that ofthousands of others, and I appreciate the work that they do. I deeply regret that the incident occurred. I have demonstrated my support for them in the past and I continue to support them now.

Well, no apology. Didn’t really expect one either.

Now, here is a statement which, according to WSBTV.com, McKinney was thinking of publishing on her website – before deciding not to.

Throughout my tenure in Congress, I seem to evoke memory loss, especially from certain police officers who claim not to be able to recognize my face while I go to work everyday, representing the people of Georgia’s 4th Congressional District.

Do I have to contact the police every time I change my hairstyle? How do we account for the fact that when I wore my braids every day for 11 years, I still faced this problem, primarily from certain white police officers.

It is a shame that while I conduct the country’s business, I have to stop and call the police to tell them that I’ve changed my hairstyle so that I’m not harassed at work.

Read the whole statement.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has new details:

Several Capitol police officials have said the officer involved asked McKinney three times to stop. When she did not, he placed a hand on her and she hit him, they said.

A statement from McKinney’s office said the officer “body-blocked” her during the incident. But Michael Raffauf, an Atlanta attorney representing McKinney, said she had not seen or approved the statement, and that it had been issued by mistake.

Regardless of what happened exactly, as the surveillance video will show, it disgusts me that this elected woman makes excuses for her behavior and does not have enough tact to simply apologize for a slight overreaction.

And then to top it off, she plays the race card.

I was curious to see how conservative black Americans would respond to this incident. DC Thornton translates what McKinney meant:

“I couldn’t be troubled for a second to explain to the Police Officer that I was a Member of Congress, so I punched him instead.”

More Of Clinton’s Lack of Integrity

31 03 2006

In addition to the lack of morals by former President Bill Clinton, there is now more proof of his lack of integrity.

Sen. Bill Frist updates us with news that the Senate acted to release a document proving wrongdoing by the Clinton administration.

For years there has been an orchestrated effort to block the release of a report by Independent Counsel David Barrett’s investigation into wrongdoing by the Clinton Justice Department and IRS in covering up tax fraud by former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Late last year, the Senate acted to ensure the Barrett report’s release, although this release included significant redactions from the text.

Senator Grassley and his staff are reviewing the redacted report and by all accounts it shows significant wrongdoing and cover-up by officials at the Department of Justice and Treasury. Indeed, according to Senator Grassley, the report suggests that “high-ranking officials did not believe the tax laws should apply to friends of the Clinton White House.”

Although personal information that has nothing to do with the investigation shouldn’t be included, the full report – without redactions, omissions, or abridgements – should be released as soon as possible.

The American taxpayer spent more than $24 million to produce this report. It contains serious allegations of wrongdoing by high-ranking Department of Justice and IRS officials. After so much time and money, the least we can ask for is a full copy so we can see what went wrong and make sure it never happens again.

Bill Clinton was convicted and proven to of lied under oath to the people that elected, trusted and relied on him to lead our nation.

It’s evidence of a “hate Bush” agenda when Democrats want to impeach Bush for trying to protect American citizens, but bury and hide any proof when it is a Democrat under investigation.

First Illegal Immigrant Punished…

31 03 2006

… for this:

A student protest that resulted in a Mexican flag being flown on top of an upside-down U.S. flag at a local school has prompted disciplinary action against one El Rancho High School student.

El Rancho Unified School District officials said the unnamed student was punished for being involved in the flag incident, which took place Monday at Montebello High School, about four miles east of El Rancho High School.

The punishment was consistent with the California Education Code, officials said. They did not give further details because of legal and privacy issues.

But Montebello Unified School District administrators said they were glad the neighboring district investigated the incident and took the proper action.

“We appreciate the diligence that \ district has taken in identifying the student who allegedly committed the infraction with the flagpole incident,” said Assistant Superintendent Robert G. Henke.

Monday’s image of the Montebello High flagpole sparked an uproar locally and across the nation after it was posted on various Web sites and featured in East Coast newspapers and national broadcast media.

The incident took place about noon Monday, when a group of about 1,000 students from the El Rancho and Whittier Union High school districts marched through Pico Rivera to Montebello High, where students had walked out of classes in the previous week to protest proposed immigration reform legislation.

By the time they reached Montebello High, the campus was on lockdown, district officials said.

That’s when the protesters took to the flagpole, added the Mexican flag and turned the U.S. flag upside down. The school’s California flag was stolen in the process, Henke said.

Rumors that more student walkouts were scheduled for today, the official Cesar Chavez holiday, has prompted Whittier-area police and sheriff’s agencies to step up their efforts, with authorities threatening to give $165 tickets to any student who is caught protesting during school hours.

Michelle Malkin is on vacation, but thought this was blog-worthy and thinks the student is an illegal immigrant too.

Doubt if anyone beyond the school administers any discipline.

Terri Schiavo – One Year Ago Today

31 03 2006

Open Crosspost Memorial for Terri Schiavo at Stop The ACLU and Blogs For Terri Blogburst

We all remember Terri today. One year ago today she succumbed to 13 days of forced dehydration and starvation by court order. Her death became a cause for many, including a president and a pope. She opened our hearts, and became a national crisis and controversy. Her cause lives on in our hearts.

WND gives us a nice memorial and update on the family:

One year after the death of Terri Schiavo, her family who fought for seven years in court to keep her alive is not giving up its battle against euthanasia.

Parents Robert and Mary Schindler, along with brother Bobby Schindler and sister Suzanne Vitadamo have developed two separate organizations devoted to activism on behalf of the disabled.

Bobby Schindler is running the Terri Schindler Schiavo Center for Health Care Ethics in Washington, D.C., and his parents and sister are in charge of the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation.

The Schindlers sat down for an interview recently with Anita Crane, editor of Celebrate Life magazine.

“I want to bring pro-life groups and disabled groups together – like they came together for my sister – to change public policy,” Bobby Schindler said. “The disabled community has such powerful influence on public policy that we have to have them working with us.”

Mary Schindler said the family’s pastor at the time did support them, but Bobby added they were told their bishop, Robert Lynch, had “instructed diocesan priests not to mention Terri’s name from the pulpit.”

“A few friendly priests told us that,” he told Celebrate Life. “And the lack of support continues to this day – we just found out that the Diocese of Saint Petersburg let Michael Schiavo marry in the Catholic Church.”

Schiavo, while still married to Terri, lived with fiancé Jodi Centonze for 10 years before Terri’s death and had two children by her.

Bobby Schindler said it’s “scandalous” for Michael Schiavo to be married in the Catholic Church after that and his denial of Terri’s right to receive Mass.

“We got tens of thousands of condolence cards from people, but none from bishops,” he said.

The family’s new book, “A Life That Matters: The Legacy of Terri Schiavo,” documents the family’s struggle through Mary.

“It’s the story of a family who fought – like any family would – to keep our daughter alive,” Mary Schindler said.

If you have a post remembering Terri, please share it with us. Consider this an open post in honor of Terri. An attempt to gather as many links honoring her as we can today. May her cause live on in all of our hearts!

ACLU Of Tennessee To Appeal Pro-Life License Plates

30 03 2006

Via Tennessean

Despite a federal appeals court ruling this month that lets Tennessee put “Choose Life” on license plates, it isn’t clear when — or even if — the tags will ever hit the road.

The American Civil Liberties Union is likely to appeal to the full panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals or to the U.S. Supreme Court, Hedy Weinberg, executive director of the ACLU of Tennessee, said yesterday.

“They’re playing it too safe,” Rep. Glen Casada, R-College Grove, said. “Just because there’s a chance for appeals, there is no reason to stop what the 6th Circuit said was OK to do. … It’s time to move forward.”

Tennessee should be just several months away from production of the pro-life plates.

The ACLU and other plaintiffs have a week to ask judges to keep a court order in place that prohibits the state from making the “Choose Life” plates. The state Safety Department will not manufacture the plates until the court order is lifted and the legal matter is resolved, said Julie Oaks, spokeswoman for the Department of Safety, which runs the state license plate office.

Once that happens, and if the courts uphold the tags as constitutional, it would still be at least two months until the plates could be sold at county clerk offices.

In the March 17 ruling, the three-member appeals panel said Tennessee would be within its rights to issue the “Choose Life” plates while denying a plate encouraging abortion rights.

I wrote earlier this month that the ACLU is simply not listening to reason with this.

The Court rejected the ACLU’s argument that the government created a “forum” for expression in which the state would have to accept contradictory messages. The Court noted that when the government promotes a message, like “Register to Vote” or “Support our Troops,” it does not have to create the opposite message like, “Don’t Vote” or “Stop the War.” If it were otherwise, then government messages on postage stamps or billboards would be contradictory, chaotic and confusing.

The trigger-happy ACLU is guilty once again, of Ready. … SHOOT!! … Aim.

I stand by this point still.

Online Freedom of Speech Act

30 03 2006

Senator Frist, today posted on his blog that he will work to pass an Online Freedom of Speech Act.

Yesterday the Federal Election Commission adopted rules regulating online political activity.

I was pleased that the FEC left online speech unmuzzled.

But the FEC’s ruling does not alter the need to pass the Online Freedom of Speech Act, which exempts the Internet from political regulation.

I voted against the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform in 2002 because I believed it would stifle the voice of individual candidates and political parties and amplify the voice of special interests. And I will work to pass the Online Freedom of Speech Act to protect the Internet as a free speech zone for political debate.

I am glad Senator Frist is working this. He is fairly regular poster on his Volpac blog as well.

Now A Mexican Flag Is Flying In West Palm Beach…

29 03 2006

… This time, the switch was made Saturday night, last week, and no one knows who did it. But the American flag is gone.

The Stars and Stripes have been replaced by the Mexican flag at Chasewood North, and residents of the condominium community off Central Boulevard are puzzled as to who made the switch.

“I woke up Sunday morning and looked up from my patio and then realized that the American flag wasn’t on the flagpole,” said Sue Miller a Chasewood North board member. “What captured my attention were the colors — at first I thought it was an Italian flag, but one of our residents said it was the Mexican flag.

“I went to the flagpole, to see if the American flag was maybe on the ground, but they took it, and they cut the rope to get the American flag down and the Mexican flag up as well.”

“We tried to get the flag down but couldn’t, so we need to hire a company with a boom truck to get up there and replace the rope and put up the American flag,” she said. “I would guesstimate that this would cost $500 or more to do.”

Funny thing though, I bet the Mexican protestors didn’t have a boom truck, but they can afford a 3 x 5 vinyl flag and they had enough wits to climb up, replace the flag, then cut all the other ropes.

Michelle Malkin reminds us of the Federal Flag Code, which prescribes the proper display of and respect for the United States Flag. Pass it around–maybe to a public school teacher in your neighborhood.

This sort of protest is foolish in nature and not very pensive. If these immigrants wanted to make something happen for their cause, they should be harassing their respective Senators and Congressmen. But how “unifying” would that be? And they would have to stay in class while the grown-ups have all the fun.

New Orleans Selling Flooded Buses on Ebay

29 03 2006

I can’t believe New Orleans is selling the buses on ebay, that they refused to use for Katrina .

Starved for cash, the New Orleans school district is taking a long shot and hoping to sell its flooded, unsalvageable school buses on eBay.

Some submerged to their roofs in the black flood waters, the yellow school buses were widely photographed in the days after Hurricane Katrina and have become an icon of the city’s devastated school system.

School officials acknowledge the sale of the buses on the Internet auction site may puzzle some people used to more traditional school fundraisers like bake sales.

“There’s no shame in it. Not one bit,” said school board president Phyllis Landrieu. “This is a new mechanism for selling things. I think it’s very upbeat what we’re doing.”

Here is the ebay auction page for the first bus, pictured below:

It’s a real beaut! Auction ends Apr 9 and there are 24 bids already (I think one bidder may be Mayor Nagin).

NB: The bus is sold “as is.”

Afghan Lawmakers Demand Abdul Rahman Stay

29 03 2006

… But they won’t have their way, despite their “reasons.” Mr. Rahman is in Italy.

An Afghan Christian convert, who had faced the death penalty in his country for abandoning Islam, has arrived in Italy which has offered him asylum, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Wednesday. “He is already in Italy,” Berlusconi told a news conference in Rome.

But other Christians in Afghanistan are being arrested. If they can’t have Abdul Rahman, they will want the blood of someone else. How much more can the government withstand its own people?

Earlier this morning, Via FoxNews:

Afghanistan’s parliament demanded Wednesday that the government prevent a man who faced the death penalty for abandoning Islam for Christianity from being able to flee the country.

Justice Minister Mohammed Sarwar Danish said Tuesday that Rahman was staying at a “safe location” in Kabul.

“We sent a letter and called the Interior Ministry and demanded they not allow Abdul Rahman to leave the country,” parliamentary speaker Yunus Qanooni told reporters on behalf of the entire body.

Maybe they are trying to apply some pressure of their own.

Some 500 Muslim leaders, students and others gathered Wednesday in a mosque in southern Qalat town and criticized the government for releasing Rahman, said Abdulrahman Jan, the top cleric in Zabul province.

He said the government should either force Rahman to convert back to Islam or kill him.

This mob is angry with the way their government gave into western pressure. Now, they are undoubtetly worrying that “anyone can convert.” I am certain they would prefer to make an example out of Mr. Rahman, even if that means taking the law into their own hands.

How ‘Bout This For Feminists…

29 03 2006

Forcing women to go to work if they have a state-funded college education in Holland.

AMSTERDAM — The Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) has proposed recovering part of the cost of study from highly-educated women who decide not to seek paid work.

“A highly-educated woman who chooses to stay at home and not to work – that is destruction of capital,” Dijksma said. “If you receive the benefit of an expensive education at the cost of society, you should not be allowed to throw away that knowledge unpunished.”

That is what you get when your citizens prefer a socialist system. The government can own you.
